This online workshop will be offered every Tuesday through the month of September.
September 3, 10, 17, 24
11:00 am - 1:30 pm EST (Recordings will be available after each class and for at least 4 months after the end of the workshop)
During this workshop we will focus on painting clouds and skies, diving into design, working in layers, simplifying shapes, connecting the land and the sky through composition, etc… Each class will offer a presentation to discuss these topics and more. There will be at least two demos in each class to illustrate the topics discussed. There will be assignments given each week that participants can complete and upload to a group forum where they can receive weekly feedback. I will also give in-class critiques each week.
This workshop is for oil painting, but if you prefer other mediums the principles will apply. If you’ve been interested in learning more about enhancing your study of clouds in your landscape painting, please join me for this class.

Please join me for a lovely day out on the Barrington Land Conservation Trust properties in my beautiful town of Barrington, Rhode Island! This workshop is co-hosted by the Trust. They are thrilled to have us paint on their properties and hope this event will bring awareness of these places.
We will meet at St. Andrew’s Fields where I will begin with a painting demo and instruction. Then, you will be free to explore the area and paint for a couple of hours. We will take a short break for lunch. I encourage everyone to bring their own lunch, water, and snacks for the day so that we can maximize the time we have to paint. After lunch we might decide to change locations to paint at another Land Conservation site, or we might stay at St. Andrew’s Fields. It really depends on how we are all feeling!
I’m thrilled to have the chance to share these properties with others and to enjoy their beauty in this way. We will begin at 9 am and will wrap up around 2 or 3 pm. People are welcome to stay and paint as long as they wish!
I will send a materials list and exact directions and parking details to attendees!

This workshop will be hosted by the Portsmouth Arts Guild on Aquidneck Island in Rhode Island. We will be together for a day of plein air painting in a beautiful location somewhere on the island (location will be given to participants). Here is an excerpt from the class description:
“Painting from life outside can be overwhelming. There is so much information and stimulation from all the elements. But, as a landscape painter, nature is the best teacher we can find. We will venture outside during this workshop and focus on finding simplified compositions…”
